This project comprised a permitted development single-storey rear extension to Audley House, a detached family home. The works sought to modernise and reconfigure the ground floor by creating a spacious, open-plan kitchen, dining and living area, supported by improved ancillary accommodation. The scheme also aimed to enhance natural light, improve the relationship with the rear garden and ensure the new addition blended seamlessly with the existing architecture.

The project began with the demolition of a series of internal walls to allow the ground floor to be opened up and redesigned. New steel columns and beams were installed to support the altered structure and to provide the clear spans needed for the open-plan layout. The reconfiguration also created a new utility room, downstairs WC and walk-in pantry, significantly improving the functionality and flow of the home.

A single-storey flat-roof extension was constructed at the rear of the property under permitted development rights. The extension incorporated high-quality glazing and large sliding doors, creating a strong visual connection to the garden while maximising daylight throughout the new living spaces. A central lantern light was introduced into the flat roof, further enhancing natural lighting and giving the interior a bright and airy character.

Externally, the extension was built in red brick to match the existing house, ensuring a cohesive and sympathetic appearance. The overall result is a contemporary, light-filled and highly practical living environment that complements the original character of Audley House while greatly improving its day-to-day usability for modern family living.
