NURSERY LANE
Project Type:
New Build
Date:
2017
Location:
Longton
Located within the South Ribble Greenbelt, this project involved the replacement of a modest bungalow, garage, and shed with a striking new-build home, separate office and garage building, and a carefully positioned outbuilding. The design responds sensitively to the site’s Greenbelt setting while delivering a contemporary, cohesive collection of structures that significantly enhance the usability and character of the plot.
To meet the strict planning guidelines associated with Greenbelt development, the new dwelling was designed to adopt a compact footprint while fully utilising the volume of the roof space. This approach allowed us to maximise internal accommodation without increasing the building’s perceived massing, maintaining a discreet presence within the landscape.
A strategic use of Permitted Development rights - both those attached to the existing bungalow prior to demolition and those available to the new dwelling - enabled the creation of two additional structures on the site. These buildings not only support the functional needs of modern living but also offer architectural opportunities to shape the wider environment.
Together, the new home, office/garage, and outbuilding help to define distinct zones within the garden, creating a series of purposeful external spaces and contributing to a unified aesthetic across the site. The result is a well-considered and elegantly composed domestic setting that respects its Greenbelt context while offering a contemporary, high-quality living environment.
