The proposal at Brookes Lane involved a series of carefully considered alterations designed to enhance both the functionality and appearance of this 1970s property. The project was centered around the construction of a new single-storey rear extension to the southern elevation and a modest single-storey addition to the northern side of the existing garage. To accommodate the new layout, the large existing conservatory will be removed, allowing for a more coherent and thermally efficient design.

The extension adopts a contemporary material palette sympathetic to the existing house, incorporating extensive glazing and timber boarding to introduce warmth, light, and a strong visual connection to the garden. A number of additional external improvements form part of the proposal, including the demolition of the existing stone chimney stack, the introduction of a clean white K-render finish, reconfigured windows aligned with the new internal arrangement, remedial works to the existing stone facings, and the installation of new timber cladding.

These interventions collectively create a refreshed, cohesive aesthetic while remaining sensitive to the wider conservation area. The property already reflects a contemporary architectural character typical of larger residential developments of the 1970s, and neighbouring homes to both the north and south share similar qualities.

Internally, the reconfiguration allows for a spacious open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area, with the flexibility of a pocket door to separate spaces when required. On the first floor, the redesign enabled the creation of a new master suite, complete with dressing room and ensuite, significantly improving the overall residential amenity.

Overall, the works have enhanced both the practical use and visual identity of the home, creating a modern, efficient, and uplifting living environment tailored to the needs of contemporary family life.
