This project involves the refurbishment and conversion of an existing structure into a bespoke private dwelling located in the picturesque village of Lumb, nestled in the Rossendale Valley. The design approach focuses on breathing new life into the building, transforming it into a modern, functional family home while preserving the character and charm of its rural setting.

The core aim of the refurbishment is to maximise internal space and volume, creating a light-filled, open-plan living environment tailored to the evolving needs of a contemporary family. Through thorough spatial planning and selective structural interventions, the scheme optimises layout efficiency while enhancing vertical and horizontal flow throughout the home.

Careful consideration has been given to increasing ceiling heights, improving natural light dispersion and establishing strong visual and physical connections between key living areas. Reconfigured internal zones make full use of the building's footprint, creating generously proportioned family spaces, adaptable rooms, and integrated storage solutions to support modern lifestyles.

Externally, the scheme is sympathetic to the local vernacular, retaining and restoring traditional stonework and architectural features where possible, while subtly integrating modern elements to provide a seamless blend of old and new.
